EX-WORK sales term means delivery of goods to the customer at the factory place. This sales term is mostly used for domestic sales and for international trade, the FCA sales term (delivery at the place specified to the carrier) is usually used.
The EX-WORK sales term is regardless of the chosen carrying method and is usually for cases where more than one carrying method is considered. In this sales term, the buyer transports the goods from the factory by himself (in the designated place in the factory) and at the same point along with the delivery of the goods to the buyer, the risk and costs will be transferred. Until this point all the risks and costs will be with the seller.
The buyer is responsible for loading from the seller’s factory.
The EXW term of sale has the minimum obligation for the seller because the seller has no obligation to load the goods even though he is in a better position than the buyer to do so (for such cases FCA is better). In using this sales term, you should pay attention to the following points:
The seller is not obliged to provide services / assistance for the purpose of exporting and can provide this service only at the request of the buyer at his expense.
The buyer has limited obligations to provide any information regarding the export of goods, although the seller needs this information to pay taxes or submit a report.
